Suicide Prevention Month & National Recovery Month, this September

A gentle place to land this September.

SOOFA Ranch is opening a free introductory equine-assisted session for anyone in Metro Atlanta who could use steadier ground, whether that's you, your teenager, or someone you love who's still finding their way back.

Suicide Prevention Month

Sometimes the hardest part isn't finding hope.

It's finding a place to sit with someone, or something, without having to explain everything first. A lot of people carry a lot quietly. This month is about making it a little easier to not do that alone.

National Recovery Month

Recovery rarely moves in a straight line.

Whether it's recovery from addiction, grief, trauma, or just from being overwhelmed for too long, steady and patient company along the way makes a real difference. That's true whether the recovery started last week or ten years ago.

At SOOFA Ranch, the horses do a lot of that sitting with you. Our job is to make the space safe enough for it to happen.

Why a horse helps

Horses read body language, not words. They mirror what's calm and what's tense, without judgment and without an agenda of their own. For someone who's spent a long time explaining themselves, or bracing for a reaction, that kind of presence can be its own kind of relief.

Our sessions are led by a certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL). You don't need any horse experience, and there's nothing to perform. Many people find it easier to talk, or simply to breathe, after spending time with the horses.

What your free session looks like

  1. 1

    You arrive at the ranch

No paperwork ahead of time, no clinical waiting room. Come as you are, and we'll walk you through what to expect.

  2. 2

    You meet the horse

A certified equine specialist makes the introduction at your pace. Some people groom the horse. Some just stand nearby. Both are fine.

  3. 3

    A grounding moment

Simple, guided activities help settle your body before anything else. There's no right way to do this.

  4. 4

    We talk about what's next

If it's a good fit, we'll walk through which SOOFA program might help. No pressure either way.
